Imogen Usherwood

I’m a fiction writer, playwright, and theatre director based in Cambridge.

In my work, I am interested in rural landscapes, restoring the absence of women’s voices in history and culture, bodies and bodily experience, and making people laugh. Currently I am the fourth Peter Shaffer Playwright-in-Residence at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Among my current projects is a new magical realism play that I am writing under commission. Another new play called Fathom, a folk-horror retelling of The Tempest set in the Fens, is coming to the Hope Theatre in Islington in October 2026. You can buy tickets here.
